Tips To Help You Protect Your Kitchen's Hardwood Floors

Posted on: 8 November 2017

If you are having or have recently had hardwood floors installed in your kitchen, there are a few steps that you must take to protect it. The last thing you want to do is damage the flooring and have to spend the money to have the damage repaired. Below, you will find several tips that can help you maintain the beautiful look of your freshly installed hardwood floors in your kitchen:

Moving Appliances

You will need to move your appliances at some point. Whether you are putting them in place after the flooring is installed or if you need to move them for repairs or cleaning, you will need to protect the flooring from becoming damaged as you slide them in and out of place. Two options to consider is using a moving dolly and plastic furniture moving pads.

Plastic Furniture Moving Pads – These things are amazing. They can make the heaviest furniture and appliance feel as if it weighs nothing. Simply lift the front of the appliance and slide the moving pads under the legs. Tilt the appliance forward and slide it out as far as you can. Once you have access to the back legs, place the moving pads under the back legs and continue moving the appliance. When you put the appliance back, leave the back moving pads under the legs to make the next move even easier.

Moving Dolly – Place a thin area rug or sheets of cardboard in front of the appliance that you are moving. Slide the dolly underneath and tilt the appliance forward to mount it to the dolly. Carefully move the appliance and set it down gently. (Tip: Cover the dolly with a towel or blanket to keep the appliance front from getting scratched as it's moved.)

Drop and Moisture Protection

Go to your local home improvement or décor store and look for nice, thick mats to place on the floor in your kitchen. You want waterproof mats that will protect the floor from moisture, but also padded so that if you were to drop something on the floor, it would not chip or dent the wood.

Position a mat in front of your sink, dishwasher, stove, and the cabinet in which you store your heavy pots and pans.

Be sure to lift the mats from time to time and clean underneath them to avoid the flooring from becoming a different color than the surrounding floor.

I really enjoy doing yard work and it makes me proud when others notice the hard work that I do to keep it looking nice. I decided to write a blog so I could share my yard and landscaping tips and tricks with others. I hope that by reading my blog you'll have a yard that others will notice too.
