Moving to the Desert? Head to a Furniture Store as One of Your First Destinations

The desert is a place where the climate stays mostly consistent throughout the year. If you are moving from a cold climate where it is only warm for a few months out of the year, you may have an entire furniture collection that may not be that well suited for your transition to your new living situation. While everything you have will still be just as functional, it may not be that enjoyable to use. For instance, you do not want to sit on a couch that makes you feel warm in the middle of summer in the desert.
An easy fix is to head out furniture shopping as soon as you arrive at your home with a plan in mind.
Mattresses
Memory foam mattresses are great because they provide so much back support. This can minimize or eliminate back pain when you get up in the morning, but you may not want to sleep on this mattress once you move because it can make you feel overly warm and even lead to sweating while you are sleeping. If your family is determined to continue using memory foam for health reasons, you can always invest in new mattresses constructed with a gel top to reduce the extra warmth that comes from a mattress.
Couch
The couch is another piece of furniture that your family will be using on a regular basis. Watching a show or movie in the living room is only so enjoyable if you are feeling overheated. So, you should look for a couch with a light and breathable material such as cotton. It may require more effort to maintain, but the trade-off is being fully comfortable when you are sitting on the couch for living room activities. You may even want to buy multiple covers to mix things up throughout the year and to give yourself enough time to deep clean the cover after taking it off.
Chairs
The chairs that you use for the dining room and the desks around your home should feel cool to sit on. This means you will want to prioritize desk chairs with a mesh back to allow for maximum airflow. You should also get dining room chairs with an open or wicker back for the same reason. In general, prioritizing chairs with the least amount of material in the back will help to improve comfort in the dining room.
